Clap push-up

Chesthardrepsno equipment

An explosive push-up: from a low push-up position the arms drive so hard that the hands leave the floor, clap once under the chest in the air, and land back in place with soft elbows to absorb the drop into the next rep.

How to do it

  1. Start in a high plank: hands flat slightly wider than the shoulders, fingers forward, arms straight; legs straight with feet hip width on the balls of the feet; body rigid from head to heels, gaze at the floor.
  2. Bend the elbows (about 45 degrees out from the ribs) and lower until the chest is 3-5 cm above the floor.
  3. Exhale and push explosively so the whole upper body rises and the hands leave the floor; the body stays a rigid straight line, pivoting on the toes.
  4. In the air, quickly clap the hands together under the chest, then move them straight back to their starting spots.
  5. Land on the palms with the elbows slightly bent to cushion the impact, straighten the arms and go straight into the next rep.
