Supported calf raise (prenatal)
Pre/postnataleasyrepsno equipment
Standing with one hand on a counter or sturdy table, the heels rise slowly onto the balls of the feet and lower again; it keeps blood moving in the legs and helps steady the calves.
How to do it
- Stand tall near a counter or sturdy table, feet hip-width apart, one hand resting on it.
- Breathe out and rise slowly onto the balls of the feet, toes long.
- Lower slowly as you breathe in; keep the knees straight but soft.
- Do 10-15 reps; if you notice calf pain, swelling or warmth, stop and seek medical advice.
- General exercise information, not medical advice: check with your doctor or midwife before exercising in pregnancy. Stop and get advice for pain, vaginal bleeding, leaking fluid, regular contractions, dizziness, headache, chest pain, calf pain or swelling, or breathlessness that comes before you start.
