Fingertip push-up

Chestintermediaterepsno equipment

A push-up done on the fingertips instead of the flat hand, with the fingers spread and the palm lifted off the floor, so the fingers and forearms work harder alongside the chest and shoulders. It needs good wrist control and core stability; the source rates it medium difficulty. Easier options are a knee or incline version, a shorter range or static fingertip holds.

How to do it

  1. Get into a push-up position on the fingertips, fingers spread, hands about shoulder-width apart. Grip the floor to create a stable base.
  2. Brace the core, tuck the tailbone and squeeze the glutes to keep the body in a straight line.
  3. Bend the elbows and keep them close to the sides as you lower, staying tense. Pause briefly at the bottom and check the wrists and shoulders.
  4. Press through the fingertips to return to the start, keeping the shoulder blades steady and the core engaged. Avoid flared elbows, sagging hips and collapsing wrists.
