Hand-release push-up

Chesthardrepsno equipment

A push-up in which the chest goes all the way down to the floor and the hands are lifted off the floor for a moment before every press. Lifting the hands resets the movement and removes the momentum of a normal push-up. It works the chest, shoulders, triceps and core, and one source rates it as advanced.

How to do it

  1. Start in a push-up position with the hands about shoulder-width apart and the body in a straight line from head to toes.
  2. Lower the chest and stomach until they touch the floor.
  3. Briefly lift both hands off the floor, then place them back down in the same spot.
  4. Push through the hands, straighten the arms and raise the body back up. Keep the core braced so the back does not bend or sag, and move smoothly to spare the wrists and shoulders.
