Typewriter push-up
Chesthardrepsno equipment
An advanced push-up with a very wide hand position. At the bottom, without pressing back up, you slide the body sideways over one hand until the opposite arm is nearly straight and the arm you slide toward is deeply bent, then slide across to the other side, and only then press up. Pressing up between the slides makes the repetition incomplete, and the hips should not rotate. Sources suggest being comfortable with a classic push-up and an archer push-up first.
How to do it
- Start in a very wide plank, with the hands well outside the shoulders and the fingers pointing forward.
- Lower until the chest is at hand level, keeping the body in one line and the core braced.
- Without pressing up, slide the body sideways over one hand until the opposite arm is nearly straight and the arm you slide toward is deeply bent. The chest stays close to the floor.
- Slide across to the other side in the same way, keeping the hips square.
- Press up. That completes one repetition; the hands shift a little between repetitions to make room for the slide.
