Toe yoga

Postureeasyrepsno equipment

Sitting with both feet flat and the ball of each foot pressed to the floor, the big toe lifts alone while the four small toes stay down, then the big toe presses down and only the four small toes lift; it trains each toe to move on its own and wakes up the small muscles that support the arch.

How to do it

  1. Sit tall on a chair with both feet flat on the floor, hands on the thighs. Keep the heel, ankle and knee in line and the ball of the foot down.
  2. Lift only the big toe off the floor while you press the four small toes into the floor. Hold 3-5 seconds, then lower the big toe.
  3. Now press the big toe down and lift only the four small toes. Hold 3-5 seconds, then lower them.
  4. Alternate 10 times each way. It may feel impossible at first; use your hand to lift the toe and let the muscle learn, and never claw the toes. This is general exercise information, not medical advice; persistent foot pain needs a podiatrist or physiotherapist.
