Levator scapulae stretch (hold)
Postureeasytimedno equipment
Stretch for the levator scapulae, which runs from the neck to the top of the shoulder blade and is often tight with rounded shoulders and a forward head: the head turns about 45 degrees away and bends down, nose toward the opposite armpit, while the shoulder on the stretched side stays down.
How to do it
- Stand or sit tall. Let the right arm hang by your side, reaching the hand toward the floor (or hold the chair seat), so the right shoulder stays low.
- Turn the head about 45 degrees to the left, then drop the chin, bringing the nose toward the left armpit.
- Place the left hand on the back of the head and let its weight add a gentle pull; the stretch is felt at the back of the neck on the right, down toward the shoulder blade.
- Hold 30 seconds breathing slowly, release, then do the other side; 2-4 times per side. Never force it; stop if the arm tingles or you feel dizzy.
