Deep lunge stance with the front knee bent to 90 degrees over the ankle and the back leg straight; the torso twists toward the front leg, the opposite armpit hooks outside the front knee with that hand flat on the floor outside the front foot, and the top arm reaches diagonally over the ear, gaze up.
How to do it
- Step the feet wide apart; turn the right foot out 90 degrees and the left foot in; bend the right knee to about 90 degrees with the knee over the ankle, left leg straight, left heel down (beginners may lift it).
- Turn the torso toward the right thigh and lower it so the left armpit/upper arm rests on the outside of the right knee.
- Place the left palm flat on the floor outside the right foot (fingers in line with the toes).
- Rotate the chest up and reach the right arm straight over the right ear, palm down, so a straight line runs from the left heel to the right fingertips.
- Turn the head and look up under the top arm. Hold and repeat on the other side.
