Vrksasana

Yogaeasytimedno equipment

Balancing on one straight leg, the other knee bends and turns out to the side so its sole presses on the inner thigh (or calf, never the knee) of the standing leg, toes pointing down, pelvis level and facing forward, hands joined at the chest or overhead.

How to do it

  1. Stand in Mountain pose and shift the weight onto the left foot; left foot flat, toes forward, left leg straight but not locked.
  2. Bend the right knee, rotate it out to the side and place the right sole on the inner left thigh above the knee (or inner calf), toes pointing down.
  3. Press sole and thigh into each other; pelvis stays level and faces forward while the right knee points out to the right.
  4. Bring the palms together at the chest, or extend the arms overhead palms joined.
  5. Gaze at a fixed point ahead; hold, then switch sides.
